projectx galore

Posted by freebird at 01:54 PM on May 6, 2006.

argh. the more i know, the more i know i don't know. anyone knows PHP? if i want a scroll-down menu that will auto-update its contents across all the webpages, do i have any other options? =cryz=

ah well~ its the holidays now, and school starts again in one... two... ...two days. (rargh) Astronomy lectures 4 times a week, with the final exam in June. And... i have no idea what the module is all about as my Blackboard hasn't been updated with the lecture slides and course outline yet! *you can't doo this to meeee~~~*

and of coz since its the holidays again, and its 3 months worth of holidays at that, i've decided to jumpstart some projects again. as yoo know... well you know what happened to all my jumpstart-ed projects, so i'm NOT advertising it as of yet, noo, not until its really up. and running. and up and running for 4 weeks with 2 months worth of backup strips. so there. again, anyone know PHP? or any nice free friendly webhosts without adverts? =cryz=

and of course i've signed up for the Scrabble Singapore Open end of May, so i'm training like hell as well. i actually think i'm pretty strong now. yep. heh...

Happy Sun

Posted by freebird at 11:59 AM on May 12, 2006.

"Our Sun is very happy. Its Mars is 99% of that of the solar system. Some stars are less happy than the sun, that's why you can see them moving about." (extract from astronomy lecture)

I've a lecturer with a difficult accent. This has created a lot of jokes within our lecture group. If you hadn't realized by now, he meant 'heavy' and 'mass' respectively. ^ ^

My astronomy lecture has started as of this week, and i'm having some trouble understanding the physics behind the planets as of now. that's due in part to my 'business and non-science' background, but more so due to the accent of the lecturer. by the words of a friend in the lecture: "i feel like strangling him when he's making an important point."

nothing a $40 textbook couldn't set right. heh.

in all astro is really fun and interesting, although i still beg to differ with some of the theories we are being taught. like, the starting of life on the planet, the Big Bang and so on... wai~ wai~ astronomy~

p.s. for anyone bored/interested in starting to play scrabble, this is a free game: Quackle. should help you improve your skills and vocabulary :)

this is not me

Posted by freebird at 04:24 AM on May 22, 2006.

whoa this is getting scary.

i'm back in hall again, and for the third time, i wake up to find the door unchained when i distinctly remember myself standing at the door the night before and thinking "i should be going straight to sleep, so lets put the chain on".

well, i couldn't for the life of me remember if i did put the chain on, but hey! the door WAS locked, and locking the door and putting on the chain should occur at the same time right?

then the previous night i spent in hall before this incident, i woke up to find the chain on when i remembered i didn't put it on cause of some reasons.

what's scary about this is that its a standard locked room mystery.

maybe i sleepwalked. or i have an awful memory. or i haf a lizard in my room that knows how to undo chains. or there's a poltergeist in my room obsessed with chains that just moved in (now that explains that cold gust of wind~) or the stress of all my concurrent projects caused me to have memory lapses where i go out and gorge on cockroaches and lizards in my sleep.

i just heard a 'thud' sound from yy's wardrobe. for a minute there my blood ran cold, and i almost imagined confronting a stalker or stow-away when i open the wardrobe doors. thank goodness it was just her hanger falling off.

brrr.

birds

Posted by freebird at 03:37 PM on May 23, 2006.

since a few weeks ago this pair of sunbirds had decided to build a nest on my clothesline. so you see the balcony, and strings across the balcony, and this weird structure made of twigs, hair, cotton fluff and leaves hanging in the corner.

when i hang my clothes on the line, the nest shakes and twirls around (something about waves motion where amplitude increases due to external force and blah blah blah) so now i'm hanging my clothes somewhere else.

every afternoon a bunch of cleaning aunties would come by my room and prod at the thing and examine the two little eggs inside.

yep, eggs! there's two small little eggs inside the nest, about the size of my fingertip. and at night and in the mid morning, the mother bird would sit in the nest and heat up the eggs, and it wun leave its post no matter how near you move towards it. ...or maybe it fell asleep with its eyes open.

its really pretty hard to spot in the dark, since its almost the same colour as the nest. but looking from the side, you can always spot this long black beak protruding out from the nest, and then you can slowly discern its head popping up just above the hole in the nest.

its... so... cute~~~!!!

i'm looking forward to the baby birds. if only we can tame them. ^ ^

8th place

Posted by freebird at 01:43 AM on May 29, 2006.

waddaya know. its scrabble again at long last.

singapore open today; and it was pretty horrible going coz i didn't have the time (and discipline lol) to revise my words and lists due to the publicity stuff and quizzes and going shopping.

its a bright sunday morning; and i had to get up at 6.30am to mug my scrabble words, and reach the community center by 8.45am. whew. and to my (and lest's) utmost horror, the place was overrun by kids. lil sec sch kids in their uniforms, coming along with their schools to join the Open. lest looked like a towering hulk. i fitted riggght in~ nah. everyone knew we were from NTU. -_-

the first game was. horrible. she's so cuuute! and she said "please shou3 xia4 liu2 qing2 halfway through the game~" *cries* i feel like the biggest creep ever going around thrashing kids' dreams. in the end just let any of her words pass; lester came around and almost screamed "wat the hell is this word ****!?!"

ironically lost the second game. >.< sigh. didn't track the tiles diligently enough and failed to notice that he had a bingo to end the game. he came in third overall so *shrug* but, i want a rematch, kid.

won the third one, lost the fourth one... a very ouch game. the biggest thorn in my flesh to date. omg~! why did i lose~?! i'm so traumetised! he wasn't exactly. strong. at all. he just had all the tiles at the right time; and i had one-pointers tiles until the sixth round (by which there's already a 60+ gap) after which i gave up trying to bingo and changed my hand. argh. couldn't think of how i could haf played that game better; but still felt sore about losing. grrr.

won one more after that; felt too sore about losing and basically let off steam at the next person... sowie. den it was the last game and the opponent was really strong. i won by 23 points. the tables look set to turn right up to the last second; my heart was thumping nonstop eons after that game. but i have to admit i was goddamn lucky; all the pieces just clicked into place neatly like a god-send, and even then, i only won by such a small margin. brrr... i need to become stronger.

lester was champion, and he got prize money of 6x the registration fee, a trophy, and a Giza set. remember that pyramid game where you build pyramids, destroy other people's pyramids and set scarabs on other people's sites? yep. that un.

8th place gets nothing (actually 8th place gets the DEATH penalty) but he was actually nice enough to give me his Giza set. (coz he din want it) so i walked away one Giza set richer.

anyone want to play Giza? but damn, i want blokus.
