i got a free ride

Posted by freebird at 09:46 PM on September 1, 2006.

Let's see. Les had something on today, so he left school yesterday night for home with my cash wallet. thank goodness i have my card wallet with me, and random cash notes in my card wallet and jeans pocket.

So today i'm to go home via MRT. Normally my class ends at 3.30pm, but due to an upcoming Maths test, I stayed behind to do tutorial questions with a friend, and ended at around 5pm.

By the time i reached the MRT station it was peak rush hour, with tonnes and tonnes of people squirming their way up the escalators. As usual I took out the wallet, put it back into the bag... and suddenly realized the wallet is neither in my bag nor hand.

I didn't even have time to look around before the escalator reached the top and i got pushed off by the throngs of people behind. And i looked around for a wallet being kicked around or pushed to the side of the escalator, and... nada. not a thing.

and that's how i lost my IC, Matriculation Card, ATM, Cash Card, Ez-link Card, Membership Cards... etc etc. Due to les holding on to my cash wallet, i used up all the cash in the card wallet. And so i reported the loss to the Alighting MRT Station and they let me out of the barricades without paying for the ride.

Well, this is like the second time i'd lost my IC so i'm not panicking here (the first time, some kind soul returned it to me) Just pretty depressed- actually VERY depressed coz:

IC replacement - $200.

Cashcard value - $20

Ez-link card value - $20

ATM replacement - $6

Matriculation Card replacement - $22

Yep, past experience. i know the replacement costs and procedures pretty well.

sigh~

the world is full of good people

Posted by freebird at 12:15 PM on September 2, 2006.

This morning, a kind woman and her husband and daughter dropped by our house to return me my wallet. They saw the address in the IC and came to my house.

I can't even begin to thank them. I love them so much!!! didn't even get their names... but i'll remember their faces for life! and pass on the love! help the needy! accumulate good karma!

the world is full of good people.

btw, there's a project - Synthesis: Crafting Characters Online, guys who have free time on their hands, ambition and overflowing creative juices go have a look.

5am

Posted by freebird at 09:04 AM on September 4, 2006.

i went to les' house yesterday for dinner, stayed to watch videos till quite late, and inadvertently dragged their beloved son back to hall even though he had no school today. sorry... auntie...

so we came back to school at midnight, and went off to the sports center to stare at people working hard getting fats off their tummies and muscles into their legs. maybe he was subtly trying to get me inspired to go for a jog and get all these fats off my thighs.

regardless, we stayed and talked till pretty late when it crossed my mind that maybe yy had perhaps given up on my return and chained the bedroom door to sleep? the handphone not being with me, i decided to leave it all to chance. and at the spur of the moment we went off to get something alcoholic to drink.

saw my qing dao at Prime, but couldn't buy it as they stop selling alcohol after 12. the store-keeper recommended we go to the coffee shop where some old geezers are drinking away to buy some cans or try to 7-eleven 5 min away. 5 seconds away.

thinking it was just her mis-saying, i walked out the front door and 7-eleven was just staring at me in the face. whew. i never knew it existed. so les got his baron's, and i spent the next 10 minutes mulling over what to buy.

you know i've this irritating habit whereby when i decide on something, i don't want any alternatives. and 7 eleven had no qing dao. in the end i got this sour-looking green apple thingie that almost didn't have any alcohol in it.

and we went off back to school.

and the moon last night was dark yellow with a strong tinge of red, half full- and half dark. les said "an ominous looking moon"

and the sky was purple as if lighted by a wild fire burning in the horizon. it didn't help that we had been watching The Haunting back in his house and talking about spirits and ghosts and bathroom ghost scenarios earlier in the night.

when we went to the washroom, the first thing that startled us was a cockroach running towards us. and the lights flickered on, and we realised one of the cubicles was locked. we went off to another washroom, and i used the gents this time as we both got too scared. so much for the stupid bathroom ghost stories.

basically around 5 am we got back to hall and pondered the possibilities of spending the night in the tv lounge since i quite probably had been locked out. and lo and behold, my bedroom lights were on! yy's still awake!

and so i went back to my room, got persuaded by yy not to bathe (something about rashes, alcohol and water), and now at 8am, i'm awake, clean, and decidedly ambitious enough to start mugging and finish up my backlogged 4 weeks of required reading.

yay~~~!!!

printer fairy

Posted by freebird at 01:10 PM on September 14, 2006.

well, for weeks i'd been slacking off horribly, turning up for seminars without my tutorials and lecture notes, and not going for lectures. why? because my printer just went on strike and refused all print jobs out of the blue.

there's no point to going for lectures where you just stone throughout. there's not even any notes to doodle on. i'd tried. and failed horribly, sorry. i even felt like walking out 15 min into the lecture, its just my self-restraint and politeness that kept me on my seat.

and i refuse to use the lab printers to print my notes and tutorials. i mean, hey! i paid for this jack-ass printer and catridge, there's no way i'm gonna go pay someone else to do the printing for me!

so i slacked around, waiting for the printer to miraculously make a turn-around, or waiting for time to bring printer-chan to the repair-man, or get the money to buy a new USB cable.

and hey, the miracle happened! my printer's printing now, all of a sudden!

i never could understand electrical appliances. they just work one day, spoil the next, and work another day.

i guess even printers want their off-days. ^ ^

green railings

Posted by freebird at 09:55 AM on September 27, 2006.

i went ice-skating after another super unproductive day. it was my first time ice-skating; its much easier than blading i... guess...

we were a bunch of ducklings waddling along the rim, and there were a bunch of figure skaters and, ice hockey players (i'm guessing there) that were just zooming around at mach speed. you can hear the 'shooom' 'shooom' sounds they were making, the crackling of the air and the ice as they whizzed pass.

i was the better skater, as i had a one-day experience with blading. ironically i fell down thrice that day. (yy:1; ning:1; hl:3)

first time was when i'm avoiding someone; i fell on my side and bounced up again.

second time was when i went back to the ice after they finished maintaining it, and after we'd gotten our asses whipped by the photo-hunt machine. i wasn't prepared for the slippiness and went down again.

third time was when we were walking to IMM, and were climbing the green railing between the two roads. my foot got caught in the railing while i was jumping over and i toppled.

i seriously don't understand why they bother to put up the bloody green railings. one day someone is gonna die toppling over and getting run over by a car. so what if people jay-walk? if we deem it too dangerous to jay walk, we'll take the overhead. its just so stupid when there's this path that leads you to the road, but some stupid official decided to put up a green railing to block the way, and you have to detour around to get to a overhead bridge even though there are no cars on the road. and the railings are just the right height for climbing; take it down or make it higher for heaven's sake, you pricks. grrr. *seriously pissed off*
