crabs

Posted by freebird at 12:14 PM on August 4, 2007.

this morning, i woke up to see hl sleeping in my bed. and i tot, oh no, what did i do last night?

no lah.

this morning, i woke up to my mum asking me if i'd seen the torchlight. i wondered why. going down to breakfast, i realised that the crabs we bought yesterday (4 for $7) had escaped their enclosure. 2 of them anyway.

more on the crabs. they were so. darn. cute.

i could have sworn the yellow-ribboned one (Y) had some intelligence and  indicted some semblence of cooperation from the rest. when i hid to observe, the purple crab moved under it, and Y levied itself up at an angle so it might hook its legs over the pail.

cute, determined and a zest for life. i really really honestly admire it. i was even contemplating letting it back into the wilderness.

and this morning the purple one and Y disappeared from the pail. what used to be silent approval from my end has now become a match-up between human and crab.

my mother was convinced they had somehow squeezed into the water pipe and gotten flushed out.

i wasn't.

so i nosed around the TV cabinet, where brownie my late bunny used to hide. noticed a slight smell. and when i shone my torchlight under the cabinet, purple was there, staring at me in the face.

my cabinet was such that there was only one opening to the back, the rest were all covered by wooden boards down to the ground. so if any zesty creature got behind, there was only that one place where we could coax it out from; and the end sides of course.

so my dad took a pair of huge wooden chopsticks and tried to pick it up from that opening. with every step he dragged it it took two steps back. and then it scurried off to the side, out of reach.

we would have gone after it with our hand, only we found a piece of yellow nylon rope, and we were afraid Y was hiding behind purple, waiting to ambush us. *clip clip*

so we sat down to breakfast with hl (more on that later), all the while aware that our dinner was still behind the cabinet, and another was still at large.

in the end my dad decided to make another dig at purple, and it frantically scurried away, out of one end of the cabinet and into the open, and ah-ha! one crab down! Y wasn't there.

my other suspicion was the storeroom. again, there was that faint smell (which might be old cardboard or crab), and after sitting there in silence for 5 minutes, i finally heard a scrabbling sound.

so we moved all the cardboxes, boxes and items obscuring the behind, and did a search. nadah. no crab.

after making sure we poked into every hole and shadow, we sheepishly moved everything back in again. just imagine, 7 years down the road when we're moving out, maybe we'll find a dead crab somewhere, decomposing and smelling like some fetid - dead crab. shucks.

an hour later, there was a surprised shout from mom as she found Y - boldly walking out the main door and towards the grille gate. i wonder where it was hiding. it's just misfortune, Y. if u'd only waited 5 more minutes, you could have made it to the lift landing and maybe become someone else's dinner.

i know its unfair~! even if it had managed to escape us and everyone around us, it still wouldn't have survived in this concrete jungle. i can just imagine its desperation and despair, and i really feel so sorry for it. the irony is, after its valiant attempt and all, the ending still wouldn't change. *cries* i'll think of u while i eat u up, Y.

anyway, yesterday, there was a stay over party at my place, only 4 could make it, yy was too tired, teen and zhen were too busy... *sob*

we ordered arnold's chicken, played grand turismo, and air hockey... and then the ps2 refused to read discs anymore. it was all the more scary coz it got stuck while we were trying to run fatal frame 2 - long expanses of darkness and silence and suddenly an eerie sound in the background...

in mahjong, i won 4 of the 5 sets. i think i'm getting better at this.

then we had ice cream and watched corpse bride. time seemed to pass really quickly, because very soon ning and yt had to leave, and it was only hl and me left. and we watched azumanga. mwahaha.

okie~ need to busy busy now.

Alone

Posted by freebird at 02:14 PM on August 7, 2007.

Went to watch the movie 'Alone' with Les. NEVER NEVER watch it alone. There's a whole arsenal of scares lined up, and half an hour into the movie i was clinging on to les for dear life, squinting at the screen through one tear-laden eye, and wondering when it'll be over.+

Imagine a roller coaster ride where u're almost always at the peak before the fall, or falling, and u're grabbing on to your seat and wondering when it'll be over.+

But its a fantastic show. Seriously. I'll highly recommend you to watch, just remember to bring your favourite teddy bear along.+

Which brings me to another horror movie, Black Sheep. surprisingly few people know of the existence of this movie - i'll have thought it would be one of the most hyped ones around, especially seeing how the horror humour genre is pretty rare.+

played the trailer for my 'neighbours' during the IT lab lesson; we were laughing like siao. catch it at www.blacksheep-themovie.com, hahaha.+

Lastly, you should have noticed the irritating '+'s behind all my paragraphs. the story is: my keyboard spoilt. so my dad got this new keyboard from someone, an EZ-ACCESS keyboard by Memorex. It's got all these buttons for switching on or off the computer, shortcut keys, controls for CD-reading etc at the side of the keyboard.+

Ironically the keyboard is too stupid for its own good, and it somehow seems that ALL its buttons are messed up. So 'Enter' is '+' and 'Enter'; whenever i hit the arrow buttons the CD-reader ejects itself, when i press 'Ctrl' a new tab opens etc.+

To an onlooker it'll look like my computer is playing by itself, with things happening on the monitor, lights flashing, disc-drives ejecting and the monitor adjusting its volume controls all-by-itself while i'm trying to ignore all these distractions and popping-up stuffs. its freaking irritating~!

You Are 70% Non Conformist

You are a pretty serious non conformist. You live a life hardly anyone understands.

And while some may call you a freak, you're happy with who you are.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Posted by freebird at 09:59 PM on August 9, 2007.

Happy National Day! Happy Birthday Singapore!

Its National Day! Being a public holiday, i managed to escape one day of school, and on tuesday night, i was happily at home snuggling in bed (and in air conditioned comfort) coz my wednesday was a free day.

and today, we went out to Marina Bay to watch the fireworks! I'd seen the fireworks twice already this year, once by accident from Marina Square during my birthday; the second time by accident from Marina Bay during my BBQ.

ironically, during the rehearsal last saturday there were no fireworks, so i pulled my parents off to Marina Bay for nought. *ashamed of self*

So! Today! we went off at 5.30pm to buy KFC, and trouped down to Marina Bay!

Many others had come before us, and had laid out mats and even tents on the grass field, while families happily ran around with their kites. We set out our mats and started munching happily on the chicken.

around 7 helicopter bearing the flag came by. Someone yelled 'Salute the flag!' Some people clapped and cheered. and then the fighter planes zoomed by followed by the smoke-trailing ones.

again, there was silence. and we happily munched on peanuts and repositioned our mats to get the best viewing spot.

as the sky darkened, we spotted against the very murky and cloudy sky, a plane... and 5 fireflies dropped from it. Parachutees~! They looked like jellyfishes floating in the sky with a light shining up at the parachute, and lights dangling under them.

and at long long long long long last, the fireworks came. 10 minutes of splendour. there was a kind that was like shimmering gold dust, which stayed for a good 5 seconds in the air. another that left white, gold and blue STARS (really 5 pointed stars) hanging in the sky. and the arching showers of wispy white, and the flower shaped two-coloured explosions, the silent expanding masses and the many many consecutive bursts of colours.

cool...

then i came back to hall and found that i forgot the toilet code. i normally memorised it in my fingers, so that i subconsciously press the correct keys. but today i was interrupted, and i just couldn't-couldn't-couldn't get the correct combi. well, at least we know its pretty hard to hack into the toilet.

just recently remembered it again just now, haha.

Tired

Posted by freebird at 04:44 PM on August 16, 2007.

The 0830 lessons are taking a toll on me. I wake at 0730 every morning... and the ironic thing is, when there is lessons i just can't drag myself out of bed. when there isn't lessons, i can't lay around to sleep again.

And lately, its been late nights, late nights and late nights due to various things, so i only get around 4 to 5 hours of sleep everyday. the pimples are all popping out.

Add to that the fact that these 2 days I had been running around the nearby 6 halls distributing flyers door-to-door (with lester's help). Just met a friend with whom I'd not met for two weeks.

She said I looked thinner. yay?

i NEED SLEEP! BUT I CAN'T~!

i'm gonna die early.

unluckiness?

Posted by freebird at 10:17 PM on August 23, 2007.

it was just another day. class at 8.30am, and for some weird reason i was very sleepy, despite sleeping at 1am last night. oh right, i woke at 6am coz Nessus wouldn't load fast enough, and i had to let it run overnight.

where was i? ya. sleepy.

i had a project meeting at 1pm, but i needed to go down to the pageant fitting to take videos, so i left my laptop with my groupmates and left early. volunteered to do the editing for the written report to make up for it.

the pageant contestants were meeting at the busstop at 1pm. i reached around 20 minutes late, but still managed to catch them coz some of the contestants were late, and they had waited for the bus for 15 minutes. as the clothes store was an official sponsor, we had to rush to NOT be late and hence took a taxi down from Queenstown. Still late.

the next fitting place was at outram, neil road. this time we reached well in advance...

and got lost in the maze of old shophouses and winding roads. some friendly shopkeeper pointed us in the wrong direction (no hard feelings, haha, really thanks uncle!:)); we walked endless stretches of roads, and in the end we asked the friendly neighbourhood policeman, who didn't seem really confident in his directions either.

the fitting took another very long time, and a group of us left for hall earlier coz of commitments... it was 7, we were hungry, and we stopped at maxwell place for a small dinner. just as we finished the last morsel of food, it started raining. TORRENTIAL RAIN. LIKE BUCKETS OF WATER. even the umbrella was of no use, and we were all drenched to the skin.

there were tons of cabs parked around maxwell with uncles sitting at the helm, but all of them refused to take us coz they were: 1.stopping for angmohs 2.changing shifts 3.going for dinner.

i huggled the very very expensive video camera i borrowed from hall very close to me. thank goodness it didn't spoil. something else spoilt though.

in the end after a very very long, ardous and wet time we finally got a cab uncle who brought us back to hall. we brought him up the long route to stop just under our block before we realized that it haven't started raining in hall yet. but just as we stepped out, the first drops of rain starting falling on us.

and i came back to my room wet and cold (from the aircon), sat down at my computer, shook my mouse to activate the monitor screen, and 1 minute into logging onto msn and checking my email the screen flickered black and white and died.

i toggled the wires, power, buttons... surprisingly the monitor screen menu options came out when its buttons were pressed - only it was in chinese.

the cpu lights kept flickering on and off.

kuro-tan is dead. together with all the dinner and dance videos, photos, photoshop files... will be racking up all the partial backups from the video camera, yy's laptops, home computer etc, but it wouldn't be complete.

the fact that i lost my thumbdrive in the FAL (where my hp got stolen) also meant that i can't transfer files between the laptop and anywhere else unless i'm at macdonalds. the %$&*@ freak who took my thumbdrive is cursed to the very depths of hell together with rapists and psycho killers coz i attached my contact number and personal particulars in my thumbie in case it got lost. a 258MB thumbie is really not worth that much you know.

and so now i'm in the hall computer lab, trying to access my project report, and hotmail is refusing to give me it, insisting that it does not exist.

shit man.
